From the Gate to the Plate

Kia Ora, Kai in the Bay is the traditional Maori and Wild Food Festival held in Hawke's Bay, Saturday November 12, 2011.

The Kai in the Bay Festival will not only showcase a variety of traditional Maori kai, pre / post European, and 'outside the square' wild food, but there will be art, music and lifestyle displays for all to enjoy. Fresh whitebait fritters, mouth watering crayfish or drizzling pig on the spit... that's the essence of Kai in the Bay.

The stunning harbour side location of Perfume Point Reserve, Hardinge Road West, Ahuriri, Napier is the venue for the Kai in the Bay Festival held on Saturday, November 12 from 10am – 3.30pm.

If you're passionate about food and culture, this festival is a must do! You can explore traditional cooking techniques, taste wild foods like huhu bugs, watch cooking demonstrations, chill in the picnic area and enjoy live entertainment all day.

We have invited talented chefs who will demonstrate their mouth watering signature dishes. Three marae will compete in the ultimate Marae Cook Off Challenge, and make sure you visit the Healthy Cooking Workshops, where the winners of our Healthy Cooking Recipe Competition will create their dish with chef Damian Peeti from Workforce Development.

Tickets are on sale NOW, ticket prices are adults $5 in the presale ($10 on the day), children under 10 years are FREE! Get your tickets at any BNZ branch in Hawke's Bay, Taupo and Gisborne.

Kai in the Bay is a family friendly day for all to enjoy.  It is alcohol and tobacco free to provide a great experience for all the family.
